history comes alive

Design Agency | Kingsmen India

THE TASK AT HAND

To articulate the nuances of Bihar’s antiquity in an interactive children’s gallery through historical research, user experience analysis and supervision of technological aspects of the installations. The objective of the project was to ensure the rich history of Bihar remains unforgettable and continues to intrigue children.

THE CREATION

12 interactive installations were designed and developed for the children’s gallery. Our team was part of a user research and feedback session with school kids at Kilkari School of Art & Culture, Patna. This aimed at testing the experiences with our primary audience: children. The final museum incorporated insights we gained from the interaction and became a hub to make history come alive in the present for the newer generations.

THE OUTCOME

UI UX, Programing, Asset Design, Implementation, Maintenance, Hardware Recommendation and Procurement

FISH IN THE POND

Children emerge from under the river and are able to walk across the river on a series of smooth rounded stones. They will see small fish swimming in the water at their feet and around the stones. If they try to touch a fish it will swim away from them.

The river is shown as a different color of flooring. Small circular stepping stones on the river flooring can be used to cross the river.

Mounted above the stepping stones is a projector and other AV equipment required to run the gesture-based software. The projection is centered on the stepping stones.

A wall mural that merges with the river, showing its culmination into a small pond. Some other wild animals (hyenas, foxes etc.) painted in the mural. Stepping stone locations integrated into AV programming.

GT ROAD WELL

Visitors can lift flaps on the sacks tied onto the pack horse to see what kind of trade goods used to be moved up and down the GT Road. Looking into the well visitors will see what appears to be a reflection of a traveler on the GTR and will listen to them talking about their journey on the GTR.

A full-size model of a horse stands by the traders stall laden with bags of goods and rolls of carpets. Flaps can be lifted up to see what kind of trade goods used to be moved up and down the GT Road. In front of the horse is a small brick well. A flat screen monitor in the bottom of the well plays a short video of a reflection of one of a number of travelers talking about their journey. This is triggered by a motion sensor mounted above.
